Influenza Vaccine May Reduce Risk of Death for Elderly People
A new study conducted by Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital showed that older people admitted to intensive care units have a lower risk of dying and suffering a blood clot or bleeding in the brain if they are vaccinated against influenza.
Malaria Cases Remain at the Highest Pitch
Cases of malaria-related deaths in the UK remain at the highest level since 2011, and although the latest data show that the number of diagnoses technically had declined to 1683 in 2018, experts are concerned about “minor” fall only 109 from 2017 – when the disease was at the worst in 15 years.
Eating Disorders Among Children
Public Health England reported that hospitalization for eating disorders in girls aged only 10 years increased by 146% from 2013/14 year, a total of 2,196 hospitalizations for eating disorders in children and young people aged 10 to 24 years in 2017 / 18.
Reversing Sugar Tax
Boris Johnson recently proposed a review of the so-called “sin taxes” on foods high in salt, fat, and sugar. A tax on sugar, or a tax on the production of soft drinks, was introduced by the UK government on 6 April 2018, as UK Ministers believe that this tax will help reduce sugar in soft drinks and solve the problem of childhood obesity.
